OBX, Duck, NC: Travel Guide (what we did + where we ate)

We traveled to the OBX in September to meet up with Mike’s side of the family at his uncle’s beach house in Duck, NC. Luckily, Mike found insane airfare from Florida which saved us the 12hr road trip! Thank you Universe/Angels/everything that works for our higher good for saving our sanity!!!

Let’s talk airports:

we flew into Richmond, VA — from there it was a 3hr drive to OBX

we flew out of Norfolk, VA — 1.5hr drive from the OBX

DID

  • night crabbing on the beach with a flashlight and bucket
  • day crabbing off a dock with a hot dog on a string
  • beach days, I don’t think Sofia sat down one time, she had a blast just running in the sand
  • walked the boardwalk in Duck village
  • popped into all the shops, I love how Duck is full of small businesses

ATE/DRANK

  • Eventide Duck was our absolute favorite for lunch/drinks + if we had more time, it’s the perfect spot to watch the sunset – *think* sparkling wine, charcuterie, rustic wood patio over the water *you MUST try the pimento grilled cheese with shaved country ham and hot pepper honey and also the Italian sub was decadent with olive tapenade! Also, the kids meals are cuteness on a platter – they are literally like little high-end lunchables beautifully presented on a tray
  • Duck’s Cottage is such a classic go-to for coffee. It’s a beautiful wood beach cottage along with loads of books as you stroll through. Gives you all the small town vibes!
  • Treehouse Coffee was my favorite for a quick coffee (very smooth roast!), it’s set in the trees with twinkle lights and plenty of tables to relax for a few. Very fairytale-esque!
  • Duck Donuts is a given if you’re in town! Even if you don’t need a dozen donuts, you can go make 1 for a snack – create your masterpiece with your choice of coating, topping + drizzle. Sofia LOVED this!
